On June 22, UGM will be having our third annual Walk for Hope. Last year was my first year participating in Walk for Hope and it was a really good event. Our community relations manager at the time, Cheryl Dixon, did a great job ensuring the success of the event, and it is a joy to continue helping this event grow. This year, several businesses have provided sponsorships for Walk for Hope: Maps Community Credit Union, Broadway Coffeehouse, Pioneer Trust Bank, Wild Pear, CD Redding, CB Two Architects, Les Schwab, Fastsigns, Ask Trak and Roberson Motors. While we are grateful for all of our sponsors, I want to say a special thank you to Courthouse Fitness who has helped us put on this event each year. It has been a pleasure to work closely in the planning and preparation of this event with Laurie Miller of Courthouse Fitness. I recently asked Laurie to share briefly about why she continues to participate in UGM’s Walk for Hope. Here is what she had to say:
“I will be volunteering for the Walk for Hope because I believe in what the Union Gospel Mission does. I love the way they change lives with God’s help. They don’t just give people material things, but they give them hope. They are wise stewards of the money that is given to them. I would love to see all of you out there on the 22nd. I will be there cheering you on. Please be part of those out there on that Saturday helping give people a Summer of Hope.”
The goals of Walk for Hope 2013 are to have 200 walkers raising awareness in our community that there is no vacation from homelessness and to raise $25,000 to provide meals and care for an entire summer month. We are well on our way to achieving these goals! There is still time to register for this exciting event and you can do so today at www.ugmsalem.org/walkforhope . Will you join Laurie and I and many others who will be Walking for Hope?
