Men’s Ministry

Every year, hundreds of men, women, and children walk through our doors looking for relief, shelter, and life change at Union Gospel Mission of Salem. Our Men’s Mission at 777 Commercial Street Northeast is the primary resource hub for our ministry, including our Outreach Ministries, Administration Offices, and one of our three Transitions Reentry facilities known as “Chuck’s Place.”

Here is where we provide holistic care to our neighbors in need, including meals, shelter, counseling, healthcare, and program opportunities that help men break free from homelessness through the transformational grace of Jesus Christ.

Meal Times

Meal services are a lifeline for individuals facing homelessness and food insecurity. We understand the importance of compassion and restoring the dignity of every person who walks through our doors. That's why we go above and beyond to provide hot, nutritious meals every single day.

Meal service times:

  • Breakfast: 6:30 a.m. – 7:00 a.m.

  • Lunch: 12:00 p.m. – 12:30 p.m.

  • Dinner: 5:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Chapel Services

Attending chapel is optional, and guests are free to receive meals and services regardless. However, we firmly believe that a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ holds the key to unlocking true life transformation, and our chapel services are an invitation and an opportunity to discover a path of purpose, healing, and renewed hope.

Chapel services times:

  • Morning: 8:00 a.m.

  • Evening: 6:30 p.m.

The New Life Fellowship

A transformative discipleship program extending God’s love and grace to men and women in desperate need of life change. Throughout this fellowship of brothers and sisters, participants stabilize, challenge false beliefs, and learn to walk in a Christ-like way. We connect our program participants to a local church, prepare them for employment, and further their education. However, our ultimate goal is to demonstrate to everyone that a new life is possible through Jesus Christ.

When our program participants graduate, we encourage our community to celebrate with them.

Our Continuum of Care

Support Services

Guests with unique and immediate needs receive comprehensive care, which includes food and shelter, clothing and showers, intensive case management, permanent supportive housing, government program assistance, and counseling.

Transition Services

Our team equips men with crucial tools for long-term success, addressing their greatest needs of stable employment and housing. We offer resume and cover letter preparation, interview coaching, valuable connections to potential employers, and assistance in securing stable housing.

Day Room Access

Open everyday, our day room serves as a vital lifeline, providing a place for those seeking escape from the elements. Our doors always remain open, allowing guests to connect with essential services, and access a supportive community. Chapel, as well as, meals take place directly in this area.

The Learning Center

The Learning Center embraces the Greatest Commandment by helping individuals affected by addiction and adverse experiences through academic tools.

Drawing inspiration from Romans 12:1-2, we facilitate renewal of the mind, fostering productive members of society within a Christ-centered, grace-filled environment that encourages growth and transformation.

Healthcare

Partnering with local clinic JD Health and Wellness, we offer onsite mental and physical health services to all of our guests. The key three provisions made possible by this community partner are treatment plans, diagnoses, and primary physician care, all accomplished in-house.

Not only does this service remove the barriers of transportation and securing health insurance, but diseases and conditions caught early will reduce the number of avoidable hospital readmissions.

We can’t do this alone, and work alongside many community partners.

The Transitions Reentry Program

Providing safe and affordable housing for men transitioning back into our community. Union Gospel Mission of Salem’s Transitions Reentry Program aims to heal the harm caused by crime and addiction to victims, offenders, families, and communities. We believe in the capacity for change in an environment that fosters spiritual grounding, structure, responsibility, and accountability.
